A while back I complained on this blog that Allen was a hypocrite for simultaneously criticizing the promotion of immorality and lack of chastity in our culture, while placing advertising on his website for books with titles like "Dear G Spot" and "The Vixen Diaries." Allen of course ignored this obvious gross inconsistency until some Christian douchebag happened to complain, at which time he posted an entry on his blog apologizing for the smutty graphics and thanking the guy for 'holding us accountable.' No thank yous for me, naturally.
Now you may think that a guy who would dedicate vast amounts of his free time to whining about a barely listened to Jesus show on AM radio would be a fairly petty individual, but that is not really the case. I let this go, along with so many other incidents, as just sort of business-as-usual among these types of people, but now I'm afraid it's become clear that this is part of an overall pattern of hypocrisy, willful ignorance and double standards that characterizes the Allen Hunt Show.
Allen has always had some issues of hypocrisy with his advertisers. The problem is that he is trying to play the God game in a secular court. Most media preachers understand that the product they are selling is not some tangible good or service, proffered by sponsors and commercials, but rather religion itself- hope, peace, self-righteousness, certainty- that sort of stuff. They make money from passing a virtual collection plate to the gullible hicks that make up their audience, while selling the occasional specially blessed Bible or healing cloth on the side. But then along comes Allen wanting to change the game. He wants to survive on secular radio, and since he can't just ask for donations, and since his audience is mostly dumbasses who aren't buying expensive jewelry and luxury cars, he is forced to shill for a variety of unsavory characters.
How does he deal with this? The way all minimally educated religious loud-mouths do: he rationalizes, lies to himself, and puts on the same blinders that allow him to worship a God like the malevolent racist child-murdering sociopath God of the Bible.
I don't even want to get started on the fact that he weaves these ads into his show and does podcasts and blogs for this stuff, so that you can't tell the message from the advertising. Any product placement advertising carries a bit of the unseemly, but on a show that's supposed to be broadcasting from some moral high ground it's just plain depraved. Can you imagine if Jesus did this sort of thing? "Blessed are the meek, for they shall inherit a brand new Toyota Tacoma, fully loaded, with AC and cruise control." or "Lo I am with thee always, even unto the end of the earth, just like American Express Traveler's Checks..." Ugh.
Recently Allen added a sponsor called "See No Evil," maker of an image-blocking software similar to Net Nanny. You can read my comments on that (and the comments of another Allen-critic named Last Cainanite) here and here. Here's a helpful tip for parents: if a guy ever tries to SELL you something by telling you it will protect your children from predators, RUN AWAY, YELL 'STRANGER,' and TELL AN ADULT, because it's almost certainly some kind of SCAM.
Now we have Allen's most recent sponsor "Fitness Together," an Atlanta gym/personal trainer program. Sounds pretty mundane right? But don't you see by now how the lies come so easily when your whole raison d'etre is predicated on a lie? Allen gave Fitness Together their own blog as part of his website, featuring them prominently and giving them his implicit Allen Hunt seal-of-approval. On only their second post, entitled "The Value of Fruits and Veggies" they made the following statement:
One great way to ensure you are getting the proper Amount and Variety of fruits and vegetables is Juice Plus. For More Information talk to your Fitness ConsultantSensing something was wrong I googled Juice Plus and got this article, by the guy who runs the Quackwatch website. Do you suppose it bothers Allen that he is being used to sell snake oil? No, probably not. But it apparently DID BOTHER HIM that I tried to post a link to this article on the 'comments' section of the Fitness blog, since he ordered his webmaster to DISABLE that very comments section.
So take notice everyone: truth in advertising and accountability will no longer be tolerated on the Allen Hunt Show.
Don't kid yourself, people. The only real god is Mammon. Whether he knows it or not, while he continues on secular radio this is the only god to whom Allen will be held accountable.
